Fundraisers

What is it with School Fundraisers? Am I the only Mother who absolutely dreads to see the package of things to sell and lets be real.. dollar store prizes for selling like 200 things come home in my kids backpacks? And the kids want all the prizes. I understand the school needing $$ and I would be happy to organize a bake sale or something. But, going around door to door with THREE boys asking for these poor people to buy 10$ wrapping paper is just not going to happen. I remember as a kid looking at the prizes and wanting it too. I understand the fun for the kids. But, I just bribed my boys $10 dollars each to NOT do the fundraiser. I know I am horrible. (I was actually willing to go up to $20 but they took the bait at $10. Phew.) Now, I might have to cough up $30 dollars and spend an afternoon at some toy store but in the end, I can live with this decision.

Jessica, that is sooo funny. I just turned in Sierra's first fundraiser (a week late, I must have lost the paper that said it was due last friday) for entertainment books. We only sold to my Grandma and her sister. I'll keep your idea in mind for next year!

I know exactly what you mean. I hate asking people to buy things so I do the same thing. I will usually buy something and then I will take Ariana to the Dollar Tree to load up on a few junk toys and she is ecstatic about it!!!!

I just got London's today and she so badly wants to sell so she can have a party in a limo. Oh sure what's that equal to in sales...$2-3000. Cookie dough is good but not that good.

Too true!! My mom refused to let us do those. It always frustrated me when I was little because I desperately wanted all that CRAP, but now I'm so glad that she taught us that. She did not want her kids going around selling things that nobody needs to people who probably can't afford it, but feel bad saying no. Don't do it, Jessica!! (:

...did that even make sense?

I just quietly put my kids in the trash..and donated a check to the school. Thank Heavens he is the first one and only in kindergarten, he hasnt quite figured it out yet.

I do the same as Laura, I send a check to the school that way 100% percent actually goes to the school. Maybe if you explained to the boys that if they donated that $30 you bribed them with it would be worth the same as selling like $200 in crappy merchandise?

amen! I feel the same and the school and/or pta would actually rather have just your money(they get it 100% if you just give cash). So, my method is to give cash to the school and the pta and take my kids to the dollar store myself!
Maybe you could reward the boys if they gave their own cash to the school . . .

I am in charge of them at the school and I probably sold the least. It is even harder with more kids in the school. I hate them. The schools do need the money but it is a pain!

I am with you on that one. I hate fundrasiers! It is that time of year and already I have had several neighbor kids come over with coupon books, cookies, and baseball cups of all things.

I'm all about bribing - I totally distact them with a trip to the dollor store - 'where they can buy anything they want!' And then I always 'loose' the paperwork. My kids think they have the spaciest mom. I loose a lot of 'unwanted' stuff.
